Now well into my second and year as a freelance writer and creative consultant, I have a fascinating mix of clients - and am having more fun that is strictly proper. Here's a bit of the back story...
Having studied Philosophy & Literature at Warwick University, and encouraged by having my first poems published at 22, I spent the next ten years being a misunderstood genius. As well as barking out poetry and plays to tiny audiences, I worked as a labourer, warehouse hand, and toilet cleaner. I also wrote about literature and the arts, architecture, IT, racism, industrial diseases and HIV/aids.
Then I joined IBM, and started The Copy Shop, a creative agency used by IBM and its EMEA business partners. Having not yet worked in an agency it seemed rude not to create one in a blue chip business.
Seven years later I moved to RAPP - a major London direct marketing agency. As creative partner I worked initially on IT, and broadened my scope to work on charities, financial, travel, and automotive accounts. Finally, as part of the leadership team who created Rapp Collins Consumer Health, I helped to evolve the agency’s approach to direct to consumer pharmaceutical marketing - latterly in the role of creative director.
